Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language
This BSL level 2 course is a progression from Signature Level 1 Award in BSL and helps you to gain advanced signing skills and/or work towards Level 2 in BSL.
The BSL level 2 course is suitable for those who wish to work or who are working with deaf people, have deaf relatives, or people who wish to improve and develop their signing skills from Level 1.
This course will develop communication in BSL about real life, routine, and daily experiences. The learner will be able to deal with most routine communication and have enough understanding of grammar to cope with some non-routine communication.
This qualification has three units. There are four themes in this qualification: everyday conversation, eating and drinking, shopping and spending, and travel and holidays.
Unit BSL201 – BSL Receptive Skills
This unit enables learners to demonstrate their understanding of routine language in everyday situations. This will be assessed by watching a DVD narrative with a series of 12 multiple choice questions, as set by Signature.
Unit BSL202 – BSL Productive Skills
This unit enables learners to demonstrate their use of routine language in everyday situations expressed through simple sentence structures and set phrases and sign vocabulary in the form of a short presentation of a topic.
Unit BSL203 – BSL Conversational Skills
This unit allows learners to demonstrate that they can hold a routine conversation with a Deaf person by understanding and using language expressed through simple sentence structures and set phrases, expressing views and / or clarifying understanding.
To achieve the full qualification of this BSL level 2 course, learners are required to achieve all units.
Length of course: 32 weeks of 2 hours per week

On completion of this Signature BSL level 2 course, a wide range of further qualifications are available, including:
- Signature Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language
- Signature Level 4 Certificate in British Sign Language
These qualifications would potentially lead an individual to various employment opportunities.
